Tribal Fusion in London

With its roots in ATS® and American Cabaret, Tribal Fusion Belly dance is a hybrid dance style originated from San Francisco. Eclectically combining elements of street dance, flamenco and contemporary dance, Tribal Fusion is a constantly evolving art form.

Using body isolations to express the music, the embodiment of the musical layers is key in this art form: from percussive to melodic. Contrasting dynamic movement from liquid undulations to sharp hip drops are characteristic to this unique style of dance.

Under The Looking Glass

Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October 2017

This is a two day intensive where we shall be looking at tribal fusion belly dance from a Choreological perspective. Choreology is a practice in which we analyse movement from different angles of the Structural Model of Movement. This structural model focuses on 5 different aspects of movement: space, actions, the body, dynamics and relationships. Choreology gives us a better understanding of dance, which gives us the opportunity to adapt and create new ways of moving.

Gambian Dance Retreat

  • The Gambia
“In February/March 2017 I had the honour to work with Gambian percussionist Musa Mboob. As part of the Arts Council we travelled with a group of UK based musicans to work with 3 tribes: learning their music and rhythms and learning their dance moves in a project called The Bollo Project, meaning exchange. For me, this was a life changing experience. I kept thinking: I wish this could be available to the public! This is such a rich experience that should be available to others also. So Musa and I started talking about creating this retreat for you all. We will learn dances of the Jolla, Karondinka and Wollof tribe, we will learn their songs and we will even have an opportunity to dance side by side with them. We also have a few excursions planned to give all participants the full experience of The Gambia. There will be plenty of down time planned also for people to enjoy The Smiling Coast Of Africa or relax at the swimming pool of the hotel. The Gambia with its thriving culture is THE place to be for your 2018 dance holiday plans!”
